Um, and you pulled out in front of me why?

With the new job I have to drive quite a bit further than I did previously. No big deal, I like to drive. No, I take that back, I love to drive. It is quite possible that it ranks up in the top five things I like to do.

I get up at the crack of stupid in order to get on the road early and try to avoid rush hour traffic. I’m halfway to work before anyone else in the house wakes up. Mornings are generally pretty smooth. A short bit of highway that gets congested, but it’s over and done in about 10 minutes.

Afternoons are another story entirely. I leave work early (because I’m a good bunny and arrive early), again with the intention of avoiding rush hour traffic. And generally speaking, traffic isn’t as bad as it is at 5pm.

With all of that being said, I would like to point out a few, shall we say, minor annoyances. For example, the minivan with 4 screaming kids that zipped out in front of me and then slowed down. The SUV that refused to yield when lanes were merging and then slowed down. The pick-up truck that rode on my ass while I was doing 85. I switch lanes to let him by, what does he do? You got it, slows down.

ARG!

Ever since getting the Z I have noticed that people are insistent on getting in front of me. I can see their little gears spinning, and thinking to themselves, “Oh no, can’t let that car in front of me. Who does she think she is? She probably thinks she’s so cool in her sports car. I’ll show her!”

WTF?

Here’s the deal, okay? I drive fast. I have always driven fast. I’m not in a race, I’m not trying to be cool. I like to drive fast. It has nothing to do with the car. I drove this way when I had a lousy 4 cylinder Pontiac.

What about the cars that are faster than mine? Funny, their drivers don’t seem to need to prove anything and go darting in front of me only to slow down! The Vette that could absolutely blow me away? He moved out of the left lane and let me by. Oh, wait, signs of courtesy. The world is coming to an end.

Jesus, try to be a little, just a little, more considerate when driving. Don’t pull out in front of someone just to get in front of them and slow down. Don’t tailgate someone just to slow down when they move over. When lanes are merging and there are a thousand other drivers who want to get home too, try to remember what you learned in kindergarten and take your turn. When the car in front of you is changing lanes to get around the slow poke, let them go before trying to zip around *them*. I bet they drive faster than you. And get off the damn cell phone. Moron.
