A perfectly priestly man?

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

So it would appear that Warren Jeffs tried to hang himself in jail earlier this year.  Too bad he didn’t succeed, because that would have been awesome!

*cough*

What completely shakes me to my core is not that there are men who still follow this jackass, but that there are women who really believe his bullshit.

This quote is from the cnn.com story:

“He is a perfectly priestly man,” said a woman who identified herself as Cathy. “He is a man of God, and we will always love him. Once a prophet, always a prophet.”

How brainwashed does a woman have to be to think Warren Jeffs is a good guy?  How sick does a woman have to be to be willing to be pimped out to whatever man Jeffs sends her to?  And how deluded does she have to be in order to offer up her daughter for the same?

Obviously, I don’t know if the person quoted above has daughters, but it’s is clear to me that she most certainly would offer her 13 or 14 year old little girl up to be pimped out.

Truly sick.  “Priestly man” indeed.

Misogyny at it’s finest.  Of course, my act of pointing this out will cause some to refer to me as a misandrist.  The mind, it truly does boggle.

*blink*

I used to be a news junkie. I would turn on CNN and keep it on non-stop. I’d check all of my news feeds before turning in for the night. For the last six months or so, I’ve had to back away from the constant onslaught of news because it was hurting my soul. I no longer check the news in the evening, but I dutifully check every morning and get caught up on world events.

Have you read the news today, boys and girls?
BBC: US Senate backs terror trial bill
CNN: Senate OKs bill for detainee trials, interrogations
WaPo: Senate Approves Detainee Bill Backed by Bush

Need help in understanding what just fucking happened?
WaPo: Many Rights in U.S. Legal System Absent in New Bill
Glenn Greenwald: The legalization of torture and permanent detention
Cobert Report: The Word: Opposition Party

I have nothing left to say.

Because apologizing to his wife would be too easy

Monday, August 21st, 2006

From the “I Should Stop Looking at the News” department:

According to ESPN.com, Reuben Droughns of the Cleveland Browns is very apologetic. *cough*

Droughns is accused of throwing his wife, Kellie, to the ground and onto a bed before throwing her outside and locking the door during a May 12 altercation at their suburban Denver home.

[...]

Droughns, who rushed for 1,232 yards last season, apologized in June for “bringing this negative attention to the team once again.”

Nice to know he cares.

WTF?

Posted without comment. Other than to say, “WTF?”

From CNN: Prosecutors say the teen is a material witness and they want her jailed for her safety. A judge has ordered that she be held indefinitely.

The girl failed to show earlier this month at the trial of a 20-year-old man, who’s accused of having unlawful sexual conduct with her. He is free on bond.

Are you paying attention?

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

In my last post, one of the things I mentioned being disgusted with was the judge in the Chicago area video rape case…

In another highly publicized video rape case, there is finally a little justice. The infamous OC Three received six years. Not quite what I would have given them.

I would ask you to please read the victim’s statement. Read it to yourself, read it quietly, and ask yourself, “What if this was my daughter?” And then read it again. Can you tell me that six years is enough? If you aren’t moved, if you aren’t angry, then I suspect you are either dead, dying, or, as they say down south, in need of a killin’.

As the saying goes, if you’re not outraged, you’re not paying attention.

Little Victories

From CNN: The Senate blocked on Wednesday a bid to amend the Constitution to essentially ban same-sex marriage.

From HRC: “President Bush and the Republican leadership gambled their dwindling political capital on a discriminatory amendment and came up empty,” said Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese. “With the addition of Senators Specter and Gregg, not only did every senator who voted against discrimination in 2004 stand with us today but momentum is on the side of equality. This is a resounding defeat against discrimination.”

Looks like another Floridian Blue Haired Phantom Knuckle Driver…

From CNN: An 81-year-old woman preparing to take a test drive at a car dealership hit her husband, a salesman, a car and a tree before running into a wall.

I narrowly avoided being rammed by her twin sister (living doppleganger?) yesterday as she attempted to take a left hand turn from a right hand lane.

When I’m 81, feel free to revoke my license if I can’t see over the steering wheel.
